The love story of Emma, Joab, and the Oregon Badlands are more than enough to stand as one of my favorite sessions to date. I gravitate toward the energy in the room to pull the best most authentic parts of you out. When the energy is as palpable as Emma’s hair is red—THAT is where pure magic happens. It helps that these two have been forever in love, love people, and were down for absolutely everything thrown there way. In the freezing. In the rain. You’d absolutely never know. I remember leaving these two absolutely drawn to the people that they were. So much so, I reached out to Emma and basically said “Hey so pretty much I think we are going to be really great friends and we should get mai tais when I’m in town next.” Since the sip of that first mai tai, I’ve gotten to truly see the pure passion and beauty that existed far beyond our session. In the months following I realized how much of an interest in photography Emma had and we have been on a journey of growth both as a student and teacher ever since! To be challenged in my ability to relay and articulate something that I’ve learned through the confines of my mind over the years has been so stretching and positive. I’m so blown away by the progress and success she has had in just a handful of months and I’m so grateful to be a part of this season with her. It has challenged me to continue learning and that’s just what I’ve done. The education process is lifelong. I’ve come to realize that I probably gravitate so much toward Emma and Joab because the outcome of truly knowing them beyond my lens is my heart through all of this.
