Some people are worth getting near-frostbite for. Some people are worth getting near-frostbite for. In a severe misstep in my thinking as we have migrated toward higher temperatures led me to the conclusion of wearing the same shoes I’ve worn every day for the last three years. My trusty reef sandals. Year round. Usually no matter what. They’re cozy. I’m resilient. But then alas. Snow did exist. And my brain did not. Trudging through the snow and slipping out of my shoes eventually led me to going full barefoot in shin-deep snow. My lips turned blue, face white, and I likely was going into a little shock paired with the chaos of other things in my life. But—them. Kaylee took her shoes off & gave them to me to warm me up & get this party going. Jeremy went back to the car for water and a banana. We potassiumed and then we rallied. This life of creation I live is absolutely nothing without the people I meet along the way. This is personal. I did this for 6 years before choosing to dive in and truly make something of it because I never wanted to lose genuine connection, losing myself in the business of it all, & erring on the side of relational vs transactional. Moments like this are why. Humanity stepping in. True core memories & genuine raw experience. Honored to do life along perfect strangers turned forever connected.
2024 is about diving into the freedom part of fall 2024 is about diving into the freedom part of falling in love. The letting go of expectation of what a relationship or a photoshoot to capture it should feel like. It’s about trust, leaning in, & JOY. To have two people who after over a decade of marriage and three small children—who never spend time in front of a camera—could release their comfort zone and breathe a peacefulness teetering on steamy result—man. Let go this year & jump in 🌊
I played this song, unknowing of how it began, as I played this song, unknowing of how it began, as they did a first dance alone in the home they closed on three days prior. In the living room that they had an intimate and sweet charcuterie lunch. In the empty room that their first memories in them were reciting vows they will ultimately honor within. I stood in the sunroom I pictured their future kids running toy cars along the sills & reading books. Outlooking the stunning massive property that they’ll run around on in the summertime and sled down in the winter. When Rachael told me about the house and how they had planned to renovate but at the moment it was outdated. And then I began to obsess about the nooks and crannies and character that I hope they keep some of the incredible character. I started obsessing about just how dated it might be and pictured a pink bathtub. I walked in the bathroom and it was entirely pink. I was waiting for every single second I could to bring some of their details in and get that magical pink tub. I encourage and deeply urge you to infiltrate your wedding day with you. The details matter. The YOU matters. This is a day that you have invited others into & should absolute reek of the two of you. This was the absolute best kickstart to my wedding season & year as a whole. Thank you both for letting me exist in your space.

She is everything I have felt bubbling for an entire trip around the sun. So many seasons. The literal manifestation of anxiety felt from not exposing all I knew was there. Emotional articulation held by brain fog. My heart needed this morning. My soul needed this shoot. My head needed this clearance. I welcome you new year. It’s been the longest inhale I’ve ever experienced. But now. Now it’s time. Exhale.
Things I wish I knew. To be fair I think I knew t Things I wish I knew. To be fair I think I knew them but we as humans are susceptible to bobbing and weaving through believing them. Life feels to big at times and our voices feel so small. We’re told time and time again we are little tiny pebbles on a massive floating rock & we are gonna die anyway. While I understand the reasoning being not to overthink and that there’s so much bigger out there—I think sometimes we feel like that pebble. Undeserving of being part of the big floating rock. Last March I got the opportunity to within a 5 week span from knowing my favorite band was ending, to buying a flight to London and booking my ticket & hotel by 7am that morning, & emailing the venue to try to get a press pass to photograph them. I got a response about 4 weeks later aka 5 days before I left with a—yes. They could have not responded. I could have received an auto-response of no. I was going to go anyway. But they said yes. I’m a wedding & portrait photographer. I’m not a concert photographer—but they said yes. & it was absolutely what 2023 needed for me to remember that life was absolutely more than the pebble I’ve been told I am. This rock is big & so are my ambitions. Take 2024 to be daring. To bring yolo back. To release your fears or the fears placed on you.
